A Cautionary Tale of Two Cities
The Death Spear
Gae Bolg [-6]
It’s a Spear
The Gae Bolg can be used as a normal spear/javelin.
Impossible to Use
In order to use the Gae Bolg, the wielder must have the Spearman’s Feat Guns/Weapons stunt.
The Gae Bolg adds +1 to Guns when thrown and +1 to Weapons when wielded in Hand to Hand, but only for attack.
The Spear of Death
The Gae Bolg is a lethally powerful spear with a damage of 9.
The Spear of Mortal Pain
If the spear strikes an opponent it sprouts barbs that thread their way through his organs, inflicting a second, automatic attack with a damage of 9 when the spear is pulled free. To pull the spear free quickly it requires a Good Might test. For the cost of a fate point, the Gae Bolg can satisfy the catch on a Recovery power for one blow.
As an Item of Power, it cannot be broken, save through dedicated magical ritual predicated upon perverting its purpose.
Discount Already Applied
As an Item of Power, the spear already includes the one-time discount (page 167). This means that if the character possesses more than one Item of Power, the one-time discount will not apply on that second item. If the Gae Bolg is the second or subsequent artifact the character gains, the refresh cost is -8.
The spear of Cuchulainn, given to him by Scathach. It’s name translates to “spear of mortal pain/death spear.”
